Responsible City SpendingIn the last eight years city spending has increased over 60% – that’s more than $20 billion. Our leaders claimed that economic conditions would provide a solid revenue base for this massive spending increase. However, with the current economy, we need to control runaway government spending right now. We need a spending cap tied to the rate of inflation, which will keep up with increases in the cost of living yet avoid further debt.
Reduced Taxes for Families and Small BusinessReductions in city spending must translate into savings for the taxpayers. The recently increased sales tax must be rolled back to make living in NYC more affordable. We also need to eliminate the Unincorporated Business Tax, which will allow small businesses, who provide 90% of the jobs for city residents, to create more jobs for our struggling middle class.
Promote Economic Growth, Affordability, and a Better Future for NYCAs a member of the City Council, I will fight for real solutions to our most pressing economic problems. Constantly increasing taxes and reckless growth in city spending will not bring more good-paying jobs to our city, or stop the flight of both manufacturing and financial industry jobs to other cities or countries. Too many of our elected officials are willing to play politics with our future, sacrificing our long-term stability for the appearance of short-term political gain. My top priority will be to make NYC more affordable now and protect the future of our city for generations to come.
